National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) provide training under the apprenticeship scheme. There are about 150 craft training courses operating under 22 vocational fields and you are able to enter into any vocational training filed according to your educational level. In addition you could follow any vocational training course in any other field under the Situational and Village Level Scheme.

AGE

The age should be between 16 Years to 35 Years on the date of forwarding the Application. Age above 35 Years too could be recruited with the Approval of the chairman of this Authority at special events.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

  • For Trades categorized under No (1), Should have passed G.C.E.(O/L) Examination with six subjects in not more than two sittings including the medium Language and Mathematics.
    (If apprentices who have passed subjects including the Language at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination and had failed mathematics and have been selected to follow the trades categorized under No.(1), special math’s course will be organized for such applicants.
  • For Trades categorized under No (2), Should have passed Grade 7 (Year 8) in a government or government approved or assisted school in Sri Lanka.
  • For Trades categorized under No (3), Should have passed Grade 8 (Year 9) in a government or government approved or assisted school in Sri Lanka.
  • Qualifications required for trades categorized under No (4) is given under same trades.
  • The above mentioned educational qualifications and the age limits will not be applicable to trades which have been prepared according to the skill standards under the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) frame. Such trades are given under signs.

BENEFITS OF THE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING:

  • An Apprentice would receive an opportunity to get himself trained in a Factory, work site, or an office under skilled mechanic in a place where the Apprentices reside.
  • An Apprentice would receive an allowance of Rs.600/= monthly (Only for the first six months of the Training period).
  • Apprentices who have passed the trade test would receive a competency certificate which is accepted locally and internationally.
  • Career guidance and counseling service.
  • The apprentices who have successfully completed the training and had receive certificates will be provided Entrepreneurship Development Training with a self Employment Loan up to Rs.250,000/=

Sri Lanka Law College and Attorney at Law Entrance examination

The easiest way to become a Lawyer in Sri Lanka is to enter Law College. Each year Sri Lanka Law College conducts an entrance Examination. You only need 3 A/L passes and 3 O/L Credit passes in English and Sinhala/Tamil to enter Law College and become a Lawyer.

Law Entrance is a competitive examination that admits about 1050 students to Law College.  A student who enters Law College has to sit 3 examinations at the end of the first 3 years at law College. Thereafter the student has to do practical training. He can then take oaths as an Attorney-at Law (Lawyer).

The Sri Lanka Law College has trained almost all the lawyers in Sri Lanka and it is the only gateway to the legal profession in the country.

Law Entrance Examination

The CLE (Council of Legal Education) conducts an entrance examination each year for eligible persons, for the election of students to Law College.

Entry Qualifications

The minimum educational qualifications to sit the Entrance Examination are as follows:-

(a) Two credit passes and one simple pass (except General English and General Knowledge subjects) at one and the same sitting at the Sri Lanka GCE (A/L) Examination; and

(b) Credit passes in English Language AND Sinhala/Tamil Language at the G.C.E.(O/L) or N.C.G.E. Examination;and

Architecture courses in Sri Lanka

The University of Moratuwa and City School of Architecture are the only ways to become a Chartered Architect in Sri Lanka. Students must fulfill required academic qualifications in G.C.A/L exam and follow seven years of academic study. After receiving the degree, students must consult the Sri Lanka Chartered Institute of Architecture (SLIA) for their charter. Both institutions offer theoretical and practical aspects where students could either select their carrier as a professional architect or as an academic.

SLIIT – IT degrees and Diplomas

Sri Lankan Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) is a degree awarding institute recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). SLIIT offers local degrees and degrees in collaboration with foreign partner universities in Australia and the United Kingdom. SLIIT also conducts a number of industry certified development programs such as Microsoft, IBM, CISCO systems. SLIIT has commenced a Business Management degree program and an Electronic Engineering degree program from 2009.

Student Welfare

SLIIT students are provided a foundation course to improve their communication skills. Its also provides training to improve reading, writing, listing and speaking abilities in English. All SLIIT programs are conducted in the English medium.

SLIIT provides modern facilities for students to enrich their studies. These include air-conditioned lecture theaters, Laboratories, Auditoriums, Libraries and reading rooms, rest areas and canteens. Student scholarships

SLIIT provide some scholarships according to the excellent Grade Point Average (GPA). Also it provides Mahapola Higher Education Scholarships who obtained high marks /grades in GCE (A/L) examination. Also provides IFS scholarships and industry sponsored scholarships.

 

Cost (Tuition Fees)

Approximate cost for IT related degrees is about Rs 72000.00 per semester, and rate per semester increase each year. Cost is very much higher for foreign degree programs.

Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA)

Higher National Diploma in Accountancy is highly recognized qualification today by both public and the Private sectors, conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) under the Ministry of Higher Education in Sri Lanka.

Having completed a Four years of duration consisting of Eight Academic Semesters, the HNDA students become the qualified candidates for Accountant or Assistant Accountant even for middle level management position in the industry. English medium and industrial training along with computer knowledge give a significant push to our students enabling them employed on suitable position in the job market. Further, all the subjects of the course have been designed on the basis of the modern changes as it is students can work as multi-functional personnel in the industry.

Today an accountant role is not just limited to his job description. He is a person who should make such important decisions, implement and control them. Further, he or she has to get a lot done from the subordinates who work under him or her in order to generate the expected performance by the management or the Owners.

Further, the students can develop other activities such as organizing annual ceremonies and blood donation program hoping to change their mind set to work with society.

Entry qualification
Full Time or Day Course

A candidate should have one of the followings

a) GCE (A/L) Examination (old syllabus) passes in four subjects of which at least two should be credit passes obtained at the one sitting with Pure Mathematics or Accountancy as one of the subjects for which a credit pass should have been obtained;

Where a credit pass is not available for Mathematics or Accountancy a credit pass obtained for either of these subjects at GCE O/L will be consider as an alternative.

A credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE (O/L) is considered as an alternative for a credit pass in either Pure Mathematics or Accountancy at the GCE (A/L) OR

b) GCE (A/L) Examination (new syllabus) passes in three subjects at one sitting with Combined Mathematics or Accountancy as one of the three subjects of which at least two Credit passes should have been obtained.

A credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE (O/L) is considered as an alternative for a credit pass in either Combined Mathematics or Accountancy at the GCE (A/L). OR

c) Holders of National Certificate for Accounting Technicians conducted by the Department of Technical Education & Vocational Training. AND

d) An ordinary pass in English at the G.C.E. (O/L) examination

The Selection Criteria is based on the high marks obtained at the GCE (A/L) examination old syllabus- four subjects or new syllabus-three subjects.

The first and second year’s lectures are conducted as Full Time during week days, whilst the third and fourth year lectures will be conducted during the weekends.

 

National Youth Centre

The National Youth Centre has initiated several programs to enable the youth to develop their skills while also providing an opportunity to achieve their future job aspirations through the provision of a variety of programs to develop their vocational as well as language skills through full time (5 days of the week) as well as part time (weekend and evening) study programs.

AGE:

Youth in the age group of 15 to 25 can achieve Competency Levels 2,3,4 and 5 under the National Vocational Qualifications Competency Standards through following a variety of full time study programs covering a variety of occupations.

Youth in the age group of 15 to 35 can attend weekend as well as evening classes that will give them job oriented practical as well as theoretical knowledge that is necessary for employment and the practical and theoretical knowledge that is necessary for higher education.
